You'd want to choose your CPU and video card before you choose yoru motherboard. first off, whats yoru budget? You're going to want to get a system with an Athlon 64 for gaming, but which socket A64 you get (s754 or s939) depends on your budget. From there you can decide if you want PCIe or not.

Well, in the terms of video and CPU/memory performance, the motherboard hardly affects that at all. In terms of socket 939, The Nforce4-based boards do seem to perform a little bit better though, so you should go that route. Usually you pick a motherboard because of the manufacturer, compatibility, features, overclocking abilities and stability. If you want the best for gaming, then it'll have to be an SLI motherboard. Look at either the DFI Lanparty SLI-DR or the Asus A8N SLI Premium.

go with a socket 939 motherboard. I have a A8V deluxe socket 939 mobo and it is a screamer. But if i had another chance, I would choose a DFI lan party mobo. My mobo took a while for me to get working(bios problems, i had the 3400 processor). Good luck hope you get a screamer.:D
