Motherboard for FX-55

Since I'm feeling that the hassle of re-installing my OS and reloading all the programs is more hassle than it's worth, I'm switching plans and will keep my old 2400+ system for playing older games, with its 1GB DDR and 7600GS AGP, and build out a second system with my new FX-55 - this opens the door to a DDR2, PCI-E system.

I'll be putting it into an Antec Sonata (original), with a 120GB PATA drive (considering one of those 7900GS's on sale - more might be overkill for the FX-55?)

What would be a good motherboard for the new system, for someone who is not into O/C but might try a little if it's easy?

Just about any semi-enthusiast board will let you overclock a bit. The usual suspects are Asus, Abit, EPoX, Biostar (Tforce series), MSI, ECS. Some are "easier" than others. I've found easiness for me to be having all the essential settings in one sub-menu. That way I'm less likely to forget something. Abit is one that's good at doing this, and so is Biostar with their Tforce series. I haven't had any super recent Asus or EPoX boards so not sure on those. MSI and ECS (IIRC) has some settings spread out over different sub menus.

You can start with what features you want/need, but it sounds as if you're not asking for much. Another option is to shop based on price. Since you have a Sonata, you may be interested in having your system quiet, so that may be another shopping point since many boards have noisy little fans on their chipsets - but some do not (look for heatpipe designs).
