Motherboard for core2 duo

My AMD system died today. It was an X2 3800+ with 2gb ram.
I was planning on changing over in a couple of months, but I guess I have to do it faster now.

I will use as much from my old system as possible.
Mostly the EVGA 7800gt will stay.
I don't plan on ever going SLI or Crossfire.
I will want to OC a bit, but not crazy. I am either going to get an E6400 or E6600 haven't decided yet.

Right now I am leaning towards the Asus 965 board.

I have read everything I can so far, but as always it comes down to what I am looking for and it's hard to see that in a general review.

Is it worth it to consider a 975 based board?

Money is a bit tight right now.

What boards would you recomend for some gaming, but mostly video conversion.
