Motherboard Fire

I decided to build my own computer for the first time. I bought all my parts off of zipzoomfly and amazon to assemble myself. I did exhaustive research (using Anandtechs buying guides plus other independant sources) on what parts are the best value and are compatable.

I utilized a number of build it yourself guides and all of the manuals that came with my parts, and tried my best to put the cpu together correctly. I am reasonably certian I did it correctly, but I am no professional.

My parts are;
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850
eVGA nForce 680i SE SLI socket 775
(2x) eVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB PCI-E
(2x) OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 800mhz 2G dual-channel
Hitachi 750 GB SATA 7200 RPM
PC power & cooling silencer 750 W Quad
Antec Nine Hundred ATX mid-tower
a crt moniter, keyboard, mouse, and cd-rw drive from my last computer

I assembled all of the parts into my Antec case and hooked up all the wires. once I had everything hooked up and plugged in, I turned on the power supply and powered up my new setup. The four LED fans activated for about a second, then failed and nothing happened. I tried agian and everything seemed to power up correctly except i noticed a burning smell. Once i noticed a small fire at the top of my motherboard i killed the power.

I took everything apart and found out the fire was centered on and limited to the 8-pin ATX 12 V power connecter in the corner of the motherboard that provides power to the cpu. The wire going to the power supply was clearly damaged and the motherboard was fried underneath the socket. I have recieved an RMA from eVGA to replace the motherboard and I sent the psu back for a refund.

Now my main concern is, could any of my other componants become damaged. When I disassembled everything my processor, video cards, and 4 memory sticks seemed fine. My question is, in a situation like this one is it possable, or even likely that my other parts short-circuited or became damaged in any way? Any theories on what went wrong would also be of help. I want an objective opinion on exactly how screwed I am 🙁

You'll likely be OK, I've seen this happen a few times before and it only ever took out the PSU and motherboard.

I'm assuming it's just a bad motherboard if you had the connections done correctly, pretty hard not to.
