I have a question. I have an older PPro 200 mhz system and the only means of cooling the CPU is a HS with a shroud on the front of the case and a fan on the rear of the case. The fan on the rear is connected to a mobo header.
Now.. I tried to use a quieter fan with a 4 pin PS plug instead of the 3 pin mobo plug. The problem that I have is that the system won't boot without the fan plugged into the mobo header, so my guess is that there is some sort of switch there that won't allow the system to boot without the fan working.
Since I'm using a fan only it has a different connector, can I do something to the mobo pins to trick it into thinking that the stock fan is still attached? I was thinking of using some sort of jumper to connect the pins on the mobo header. Will this work or does the header actually need to be supplying power to a fan in order to boot the system?
Any ideas on this would be most appreciated!
TIA,
Sal
