Motherboard dosen't support PCI Video Card

Hi Guys,

I have an old HP Vectra PC, which uses some foxconn motherboard and has pentium3 processor with integrated Matrox G200 AGP.The system runs fine, but the problem is the AGP dosen't have any TV Out. So i purchased ATi Rage PCI Video card to solve the problem, but when i start the system with this video card no display appears.
I've checked the card on other computer and it works fine there. Also i've set in BIOS setup, Init Display First as PCI Slot.

Any ideas how this problem can be solved ?

Thanx in advance
Regards

Are you getting no video period or just no video in Windows?

If youre using Windows, Id disable/uninstall the old video card in Control Panel, shut down, install the new card, reboot, and then see what happens.

Update: i borrowed an a S3 PCI Vga from a friend, and the strange thing, the computer booted with it !!!.Now this make this even more mysterious, as i already have checked the ATi card, at other computer and its working there.
So can anyone tell me, why the ATi card is incompatible with my motherboard. My friend said, incompatibility could be due to fact that's its a new card and maybe following new PCI v2.2 standard, while my motherboard being quite old dosen't comply with that ?
Is this true ???

I have not had good success with newish (meaning 3D anything) PCI video cards in older computers.

I have a 32mb GeForce MX200. It works in only one of my older computers, that one being a 300mhz K6-III. It did not work with a 600mhz celeron, a 400mhz PII, a 486, or a 350mhz K6-2. In all cases, when it didn't work, it didn't even post. On the PII, I went farther and attempted to load it as a second display in windows. Once windows got to that portion of the loading sequence, the computer simply shut down. On all the computers, I was using the latest bios revision for their respective mainboards.

Consistent with your experiences, it also works in my current computer, an AXP2000+ w/ an Abit NF7 mobo.

I think it is worth the time to try and get it running as a secondary display. Just make sure the computer is set to boot from AGP, not PCI. Some boards with integrated video disable themselves when they detect another vid card inserted, so this may not be an option.

Okay, i followed your TIP and tried to use the ATi card as secondry display adapter. The computer booted using AGP's display, the motherboard didn't disable the onboard AGP, but windows didn't detect ATi Rage PCI at startup.I tried detecting it using Add new Hardware Wizard, but no luck 🙁 .
