I just purchased a SATA harddrive, and realized that my motherboard does not support SATA. Is there any kind of hardware which would let me use SATA? And if so, what would be a good brand/model for a reasonable price?

Eactly! And there are a bunch at NewEgg. You have a choice of2 or 4 or more ports, and with or without RAID. Lots of options. The cheapst route is a simple 2-port SATA adapter w/o RAID. It's actually an easier install than the mobo ports in many ways.

I've heard that the PCI SATA controllers can be iffy on mobos that don't already have some SATA support. Look at some of the owners reviews of the ones available on the Egg - seems to be higher than average problems with them across the board. Thus I'd suggest trying a cheap one for your first attempt like the Syba based on SiliconImage logic. Usually well under $20. shipped.

Another option is to use the drive in an external enclosure via USB or FW. Quite a few SATA external boxes out there now.

A last option is to use a SATA to PATA adapter. Used to be scarce to nonexistant but I'm seeing more of them lately.
