Motherboard doesn't line up with case holes

I just put my motherboard into my case and only 4 out of 9 motherboard holes line up with the posts in the case. Is there any problem with not having the other 5 holes screwed into the case?

Can you move/install standoffs where the additional mobo holes are?

Any mobo I've installed has had at least 6 if not 8 places to screw it down securely.

sounds like you bought the wrong case. still most cases have holes for microATX, ATX, and pentium 4. weird.

The mobo is an Albatron KX18D Pro (ATX) and the case is an Antec Overture. There is very little room to move the motherboard around. I installed the standoffs in all the holes that lined up with the motherboard. I don't think there is any way the additional holes would work. I'm not sure whether its the motherboard or the case that is not drilled properly. The case does have markings for ATX vs mATX alignment.

So, you are saying only 4 holes in mobo and case have lined up, if so, I would not be comfortable with that.

That's right, only 4 holes line up. I'm wondering if anything could be damaged by not having the motherboard completely tied down.

Without proper support, your mobo will be bending any time you press a PCI card/AGP card or RAM into their slot.

Any possibility of installing additional standoffs at the proper positions, where needed?
Depending on type of standoffs you can get, it might just entail drilling a few proper-sized holes.

No, as long as you are careful. Like Slogun said, the board will flex when putting RAM, cards in/out. You can get little rubber standoffs that stick to the board...they at least help when putting force on the board. My Antec 3700 came with a few of those.

that's just so bizarre.

antec makes quality, and atx boards are just atx boards.
i hate to ask but are you absolutely sure that you've got the board seated correctly?
for example, if you've matched all the holes near where the pci slots stick out of the case... that would be a good start. and if the rest don't line up then... i guess you're screwed.

I have installed the standoffs, but the holes in the standoffs do not line up. The board is resting on the standoffs, so I guess I won't have a problem installing the ram, boards, etc.

I lined up all the port connectors (PS/2, USB, Firewre, etc) when I installed the motherboard so that it fit with the backplate on the case. I haven't tried to see how the PCI slots line up yet.

Simple solution - although I must agree, a standard case and ATX mobo should line up properly! Just get some of the older plastic standoffs, and cut the screw bottom off. That will leave a flat plastic pad that will just sit on the backboard of the case to support the mobo properly. No drilling necessary.

Take out the backplate and see if you can get the holes to line up.

You're using a motherboard that is a standard ATX layout and a case that accepts a standard ATX motherboard.

These holes should, and must line up.

I can see from these pictures that the holes will line up.

It does appear from the pictures that 9 of the holes should line up.

One pic should be rotated 180 degrees relative to the other.

I removed the backplate and now everything lines up. I guess I need to get a new backplate.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

So, one of the IO ports did not have a hole in the backplate? The less embarrassing part of this is that you'd not be able to properly seat your AGP and/or PCI cards with the mobo in that position anyway.
