The motherboard of a Dell XPS 400 doesn't detect the USB keyboard when it boots. I went through all procedures to see if I could make it work, but I concluded that the motherboard's USB ports are defective. The motherboard has no PS/2 port. Of course, the computer is useless since no keyboard means no booting to OS.

Is there a solution that involves something other than replacing the motherboard? I was thinking of a PCI USB card or PCI PS/2 card, but the motherboard wouldn't detect them before the "Keyboard not found. Press F1 to continue" message.

Are you sure the MB doesn't have extra USB plugs on it? 3,4 or 5,6 for instance. You could pop in a USB bracket and connect there possibly.
