I have a issue with my computer. I have the motherboard lights ON, i.e the Power light and the Reset light on my P5Q-E motherboard. But when I press the button on the cabinet, the computer does not start. I checked the SMPS and replaced it with another but it still does not start. If I leave the main power on for a few hours then it starts automatically without pressing any button. Once its on it will remain on till shutdown. If you put it on and off it will run without any problems, but if you turn it off for an hour and then turn it on, it does not start.. I have removed everything from the motherboard. Just the essential, ram and processor lie on it.. But it still does not start..

Temporarily disconnect the power switch from the motherboard and substitute the reset switch. I doubt this will make a difference, but it will rule out a bad power switch & cable. Otherwise I would look for a short between the motherboard and case, in the area where the switcch connects, up to the south bridge. Worse, there could be a bad solder joint (applying a hair dryer may bring it out or make it disappear), or a small small surface mount component has been damaged.

Tried shorting the motherboard power switch on the motherboard, it still does not start.. Tried the Hair dryer trick, it starts like after half n hr of blow drying.. n remains on, but the next time u switch it on without blow drying it does not start.. Sometimes blow drying also does not work, but most of the time it does..
