The problem started a week ago, computer froze while surfing. Would not boot back up, all fans and drives lite up, but no beep codes, no vga output.
After turning the power off in the back, and trying again, the computer didn't boot but I did now get beep codes. Best I could tell is that it appeared to be memory or power supply. I pulled all sticks of memory out and was finally able to get the computer to boot with only one stick. It would not boot with any of the other three (Abit IP35, 2 x 1 GB Crucial, + 2 x .5 GB crucial) Some Techs. whom work with me made the diagnosis of three bad sticks (two years old, never an issue) This didn't seem right so after bringing the computer home I put the three "bad" sticks back in and it booted up fine.
I used the computer for about 20 hours over the weekend, inc. leaving it on overnight last Sat. No issues other than I couldn't get my USB to read my thumb drives (froze up multiple times)
Monday night while loading IE, froze again and that's all she wrote. Fans and drives come up, I get the normal double boot with is common with P35 chipset but no post, no beeps, no vga output. I do get a memory error beep if I pull out all but one stick of RAM and run it in the wrong socket. So while the issue may well be the MB, it isn't completely hosed.
I have reseated the CPU, Ran all kinds of diff. RAM configurations, pulled out the Video card, discontected the Sound card, plugged in another SATA hard drive (clean none formated) I shunted the CMOS to kill the overclock, and disconnected everything connected to the USB pin outs.. Nothing but fans and drive lights still.
I am running a cheap "Free" after rebate Ultra Power supply. Could I have lost a rail (I think it is dual rail) in which case fans spin but not enough juice to bring up the board.? The Power supply is perfectly quite and the fan is running.
OR give it up, the MB is dead?
Thoughts appreciated
