I'm having trouble deciding what motherboard I want to get for my P4 upgrade. Right now I'm looking at getting a 1.6a with a 512mb stick of Samsung PC2700 Ram. I'm having a hard time deciding which chipset to use the 845e or the 845g. Right now I'm leaning toward a 845g board because I have heard that it "supports" PC2700. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

i845g unofficially has DDR333 support, and not at high fsb's at all.

I'd go SiS 648. It "officially" has DDR400 support, which means it should have over that in dividers, if it follows the SiS 645 and SiS 645DX, which roadmaps and reviews conclude it will (follow in their path). However, it'll have a better southbridge as well as AGP 8x support, and who knows about the agp/pci lock.

Here's a little review of the chipset: http://www.hardwarecentral.com/hardwarecentral/reports/4271/1/

I picked the Asus P4B533-VM:

cost was $115
overclocking was easy
didn't use built in video but will come in handy when handing down to my wife or siblings
6 usb 2.0 ports
digital audio with S/P DIF can be added for about $20 through Asus adapter which also has firewire
so far so good
