Hey All,

Haven't been on this forum in many months......but, it's time for an upgrade...so I had to get the expert answers! :)

I am thinking about either buying:

ASUS A7N8X Deluxe with XP 3000 Barton (400MHz)

or

ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe with P4 2.6CGHz (800MHz).

There is around a $75.00 - $100.00 difference between to the 2 systems (including PC3200 DDR ram).

Anyone have any comments/recommendations on either of these MB's? I'm into Gaming/Movie Editing (more on the gaming).

Also, I have a power supply that I am using with an Epox 8KHA+ Motherboard (AMD 1900+).

My question is, can I still use this power supply with a P4 motherboard?

Or, is it a completedly different connector?

Thanks guys!

I like the Abit NF7-S better then the ASUS but both are pretty good.

Does the program you use to edit video use SSE2? If so then a Athlon64 or P4 would do better then a AthlonXP. But the money you save from useing one of those 2 chips could be spent on a better video card, ala 9700/9800 series ATI, with a AthlonXP 2500.

If you do go AthlonXP I would get a Retail 2500+. Much cheaper and the Asus or Abit board will unlock them and they will hit 3000+ XP leveles easy and save some cash for better Ram and Video card.

Thanks Marlin.....so why do you like the Abit better?

Also, do you (or anyone else) have any info on my Power supply/connector question?

Thanks!

the athlonXP.. it would be an easy choice for me :)

the only way to know about your powersupply is to actually look at it and see if it has the extra connections that are used on the P4 motherboards

Thanks Boonesmi!

Why XP? I'm not into overclocking or anything, but I am looking for the best performance.

Do you know of any diagrams that show what the power connector should look like for a P4?

Anyone else have a thought on the AMD or P4 system (performance etc.).

Thanks again!

i dont have a link to a photo of the type of powersupply, but its really easy to tell

a non p4 powersupply will have the connector that goes onto the motherboard and then the normal 4pin modex connectors (for harddrives and cdroms) and the smaller connector (for floppy drives)

the one for a p4 will have all the stuff in the non p4 plus it will have 2 extra odd shaped connectors
