Hi

Last night a friend of mine had to reset the cmos
was trying memory settings that it didn't like

Well after he reset the cmos with the jumper he turned it back on and gets an error saying

cmos/gpnv checksum bad
and than it says hit f1 to reset or f2 to go in and correct settings

the problem is is that there is no response from the keyboard at all!!
the lights don't come on or anything
tried 3 different keyboards also

anyone have any ideas???

Thanks

Dang! :( Try clearing the CMOS again, like this:

  • Unplug computer from wall
  • Hit the Power button a few times to get all the energy out of the power supply
  • Clear CMOS by jumper for about ten seconds
  • Put jumper back to normal
  • Get a large hammer, at least 16oz, and menace the motherboard with it. Try for a sort of crazed on-the-edge look.
  • Plug the PSU back into the wall and try powering up

Also, if you've been trying all PS/2 or all USB keyboards, try the other type if you have one. Try both sets of USB ports, if you have more than one set. Good luck! :)

I had similar experience just the other week. My Corsair 3000 RAM just went kapluey. Took me a few days to figure that out though. But when it happened the machine locked up. Upon reboot I get this error: Bios Rom Checksum error, then a sub error stating my keyboard was bad. Same for me the keyboard wouldn't do anything thus leaving out in the cold trying to access the bios. I ended up reflashing the bios, disabling RAM caching in the bios after being able to get in, then reformatting and reinstalling the OS after discovering the HD got scrambled when the RAM went down. I too had probably pushed the RAM too far for it's liking. Corsair was nice enough to send me a new stick today.
