I am building a new system. I want to get the new P45 chipsets.

I am very impressed with the features of the ASUS Maximus II Formula but it only uses DDR2 memory.

My other choice is ASUS P5Q3 DELUXE which uses DDR3 memory and it has wireless N adapter built in.

Is DDR3 memory much faster than DDR2 memory that i will notice? If not, I will go with the Maximus II Formula motherboard

DDR3 is a complete waste of money, it is only faster in benchmarks not in real world applications.

In the price range of the Maximus you should buy an X48 motherboard since they support crossfire in x16,x16 instead of the x8,x8 of P45 chipset motherboards.

What features (that you care about) are in the maximus that aren't in the P5Q Pro?

FYI, if you are thinking of crossfire, the single-card 4870 x2 will supposedly be out soon for $500, so you can buy it instead.

The MAXIMUS has so many neat BIOS Overclocking features, an LCD poster and it has a built in restart switch on the board. It's important to me as I overclock and i've lost some MB's in the past. Check it out: http://asus.com/products.aspx?...model=2166&modelmenu=1

Here is the details for the P4Q Deluxe: http://asus.com/products.aspx?...model=2273&modelmenu=1

They're both great. But I was thinking if DDR3 is a real jump, then it's an investment. (until Nehalem launch later this year)

fyi- since I don't do much gaming, the video options are not that important to me. if they were, i would have probably gone with the 790i ultra

thanks

My Opinion after hours of research is this board is the best bang for your buckAsus This is a high end board it is a striped down Rampage that can take the same bios the Rampage uses to give you all those neat overclocking features, the P45 is the lower end chipset, why people would pay the same or more $ for a lower end board is beyond me. Or get the Rampage if you want all the same things you get with the Maximus its only $20 more.
