The other day I was at a freinds house helping their son and daughter with a software program on a Apple computer. Needless to say the Apple computer was a POS just like all other ones I have seen to date.

One thing they did though surprised me. When they rebooted it let out a sound... nothing close to putting me in ahh until I thought about something. All it was (or at least I think) was a simple .wav file in the BIOS level. Todays motherboards have two mb chips, can we put in a .wav file for a bootup sound? I think that would rock .

Some Asus boards have an onboard POST Reporter that can indeed be given custom voice messages. By default, my A7V333 says "Computer completed power-on self-test" and "Computer now booting from operating system." It could be customized... let's see here...

  • "Dude... you're gettin' a Dell!" and "Haha! NOT!!"
  • [Darth Vader]"Luke... I am your father."[/Darth Vader] and [Luke]"noooooo!"[/Luke]
  • [BattleMech]"Reactor online, weapons online, sensors online. All systems nominal."[/BattleMech]

Well if that were the case... I think I would choose...

  • All host station primary defence and weapon systems are online.

Is that only available in Asus boards? While I would like the capability I am very happy with the performance/stability of my Abit board. (BE7-R)

A7V333 family, and several more, look under the POST Reporter column here. My board also has the MyLogo feature, allowing me to embed a custom boot-up logo in the BIOS (I used my Cheetah avatar, which is my own work:D) but that's of limited value since 1) it shows only for a moment, unless I disable "Quick POST" in the BIOS, and 2) I don't reboot much, the system runs SETI@Home 24/7 for the AnandTech SETI@Home team.

Sweet... perhaps I better make a switch to Asus. I have another Abit motherboard on the way in shortly that I bought from Evan Lieb. Maybe somebody will make a trade for a IT7-Max mobo in the FS/FT section .

Not unless of course somebody knows of a link for this hack on a Abit mobo.

"All host station primary defence and weapon systems are online."

LOL, what a request. Nothing simple like 'System is working'

:D

Well... he was talking of gaming voices. I got that one off of Urban Assualt. I do not know what I would put in for sure. There are lots of possibilities.

I have been hearing beeps for years when turning on computers and never really gave it much thought until I heard that Mac boot up. Now I am obsessed. I need a mobo that will do this.

And no... "system is working" won't do it. What if it says that and never boots up :Q... I do not think anything would get me more agravated than firing up the computer, hearing that voice but never be able to get past the BIOS screen :D.
