well today im finally gonna order some parts. iv debated with OEM/Retail . but i think i found a good solution.so i found this combo at monarchcomputer.com

AMD Athlon T-Bird 1000 MHz Combo - AMD Athlon T-Bird 1000 MHz, MSI K7T Pro2-A Athlon 200 MHz Motherboard, Tai-sol (CEK733092) heatsink and ballbearing fan. Runs Athlons 30% cooler. (AMD approved) --- $327---

do u think thats good? im not sure on the warrenty i emailed them to see. i think its 3 years.

i added it up and its about the same price if not less than buying everything seperate. i just though ordering it from 1 place all together might be better. any input greatly appreciated

234.95 after a 30 off 150 coupon code at buy.com (thru techbargains)
gets you a 1.1ghz, NOT a 1ghz
and that's a retail package with a 3 year warranty, not a 30 day warranty
comes with a Taisol?? HSF in the box I beleeve
That would be with free shippin too if u can get in on it.

Then get the 2a for 118 from Monarch with 10 shippin on top of it

and yer total for a 3 yr warranted cpu/fan
and the smokinest mobo for it would be:

362.00

a better buy than 327 plus some inflated shippin for a
10 percent slower oem chip with a 30 day guarantee

your mileage may vary

thanks for the coupon but i cant seem to get it to work? ACK! can u help only 1 day left. when it says expires 12/15/00 does that mean u can use it all day on the 15th and it. or does it end at 12am tonight..

buy.com jerks the coupons when the funds set aside are gone

I don't even know why they bother putting expirations on em!

Sometimes they go overtime, most of the time they pull em early.

In lieu of that,

I'd go to Lynn Computer (check pricewatch)

and get their 1ghz for 199,
the pro2a for 118
and then order the Globalwin Fop32-1 cooler from directron.com in texas
Go read the review of coolers at tomshardware and I think you'll
find this workhorse of a cooler will keep yer chip cooled off
for the long run.

Reason I suggest Lynn, is because I've ordered from the guy,
he shipped my stuff promptly, and it arrived safe and sound,
and I think that peace of mind is worth spenin an extra
20 bucks over the Cheapest price on pricewatch which is usually
some scheister firm out of NJ or NY blah blah

All this stuff together with shippin and all should
run around 350 bux which is a nice deal for the bestest
board, cpu and cooler around.

i solved it. got the 1.1 for 234. i ordered 264. then they said to call back after the order went through and they would take it off manualy. they did. they wernt dicks about it either. they said they have been having troubles with the coupons lately , go figure =p

Nice job

I would still go to Directron.com and get ya a
Globalwin FOP 32-1 at a nice price (around 20.00)
tuck the stock sink away in the box for an oem Duron
box when they go down to 30 bucks or so.

The stock cooler will NOT make you happy
but the retail box is worth havin when it's the
same price as the oem's, if fer nuthin else
for the WaRrAnTy.

ALSO:

If u REALLY wanna make that system sing,
add an IBM 75GXP ATA100 drive.
qUICK AS f&^%, and eerily quiet too.

yea wasnt to sure on hsf . i thought of taisol or a global win. the one tai sol dont fit the pro2/a.
i was going to get the IBM or a maxtor 30 gig. 7200. im leaning more toward IBM. hey does buy.com have those -30 things alot? 🙂

Buy the IBM drive. Nothing in the IDE arena can touch them. Not only are they fast as hell they are the most quite drives I have ever not heard. Also you can just look at an IBM drive next to a Maxtor or WD and it looks like higher quality construction. I swear they look like you could drop them off a building and they would be ok.

buy.com does the coupon thing to some degree all the time,
problem is, unless they're competing for xmas traffic
with amazon and ecost and the other usual suspects,
they limit them to new customers.

However, it seems last Nov and this Nov and Dec.
they did the 30 off 150 for existing custs.

So, the answer is yes and no.

I'd advise ya to make a new acct., get a new hotmail email address,
and use another credit card to get an ibm harddrive tonite or tomorra
at the latest and lastly, clear all cookies from yer browswer.

30 off 150 is great, but free shippin to boot make it a deal not to be missed
out on.

You're right, the forged Taisol won't fit, and the other taisols, although
reasonable solutions, don't match the FOP32-1. Get it and bet happy,
and like I say, save the stock sink for an oem duron or sumthin of that sort.
