Over the last few months my system has slowly been becoming more and more unstable. Games would just exit to desktop for no reason, and CS would crash periodically giving memory errors saying "Location 0x3dab352 could not be read etc". At the time i was running 2 x 512mb CMX512-3200C2PT (platinum series) sticks on a Asus A7N8X Deluxe (not sure on the rev, but i know its not a rev 2.0 board) in dual channel mode.
The first thing i did was run Prim95's memory toture test, which would last about a minute, if that, before stopping due to an error. I then decided to test the 1st stick with memtest86 (latest version) and it came back with 11 errors, 6 in test 5 and 5 in test 6. I tested the 2nd stick on its own and that came back with 4 errors in test 5. I tested the 2nd stick in Prime95 again and it lasted 10 minutes in the memory toture test before i stopped it myself, content that hopefully, my stability errors were mainly solved. However recently games have begun to crash randomly and Prime95 will now run only for about a minute before stopping. Ive not run memtest86 on this 2nd stick again yet, i'll do that later.
So my question is, if indeed this 2nd stick has developed new errors, is it the fault of the motherboard? Apart from the likely result of replacing my motherboard, is my memory now permantly screwed, so that im going to need to buy new RAM too?
Lastly no, RMA'ing sadly isnt an option.
Edit: CPU is a Barton 2800+ and so the memory is running at 166mhz, not 200mhz. System has at no point been overclocked. Memory speed is: 2-2-2-5.
