Motherboard comparison.....is the ASUS P5B-whatever $50 or more better than the Biostar TForce 965PT?

I've been looking for an upgrade for the wife's computer to a C2D. Had really been considering the ASUS P5B-Deluxe or other variants of this board, but at $150 or more for version, esp. for how she uses her computer, it always seemed to be a huge cost with no benefit.

Since the Biostar TForce 965PT motherboard seems to be a great budget motherboard with everything that she'd need in a board, are the ASUS variations worth the extra money?

She has one SATA hard drive, two PATA opticals, an ATI X800Pro video card 2 x 1GB memory, and that's about it. No kind of gamer really, just i'net browsing, card player and little else. Firewire...not used on her computer and neither is RAID.

The Biostar seems to be the best bang for the buck.....any other better suggestions?

And, yes, I do OC her computer despite the fact she doesn't need it done.....just cannot resist it! LOL!

i couldn't justify spending that money on the Asus for what the board is going to be used for. I'd look at the Biostar like you said or the Gigabyte S3 for ~$110. Check out the latest roundup Anandtech did yesterday comparing those boards. Biostar got a good write-up for its value.

The P5B-Deluxe is NOT a bad motherboard. I've had a better OC experience with it versus a 680i motherboard :)

I agree Asus boards aren't bad, in fact I've used Asus in the majority of builds I've done. I just can't justify spending $180 on a P5B-Dlx when he can get a Biostar or S3 for ~$110 considering this isn't going to be a top of the line system and he doesn't need all the features on the Asus.

I would get the Gigabyte S3 or DS3 or the Biostar Tforce. The extras $$ you save can better spent in other places
