Hi,

I'm torn between the following choices:

- ABIT IP35 Pro + 8800gt + 4gig ddr2 800 ram
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813127030

- GA-X38-DQ6 (ddr2 version) + 8800gt + 4gig ddr2 800 ram
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] GA-X38-DQ6

- Hope for the new 780i to be available in newegg before christmas and buy it as soon as it comes out.

The 780i seems to be the best future investment (I could run 3x 8800s in SLI later on) but I don't know if it will be available before christmas.

Thank you.

Cruxton,

You seem to be torn about whether to build now or wait. Turns out we all play "waiting games" to see what the next "new and better" will be, only to turn back to what we know is good and reliable. I waited for 2 months for the x38 boards to show up and was disappointed by the high prices and small incremental changes that they presented and turned back to the P35 boards and bought one of them instead.

You can wait and wait and still not have your new computer. I say make a decision, build and enjoy NOW instead of next January, February or whenever your "perfect" board shows up, only to maybe disappoint you...

Some others chuckled when I compared the parts-acquisition process to "surfing."

You have "waves" of technological advancement, and you try and catch those waves on the downside of "price-momentum."

Of course, with an unlimited budget, you'd never learn to surf :D

Ha! I like the comparison. I too am waiting to build. At first I waited for the quads to drop in price. Then someone said "no no, don't buy now, Phenom is coming out and it's going to (insert overblown now proven wrong statistic about how Phenom>Intel)". Then the 8800gt's came out. And now Penryn is due out in January! That's what I hate about the waiting game, it's never over. So I have told myself I don't care what's coming out, I'm going to build something when the 780i comes out.

Hopefully my new rig will be:
Tai Chi w/ Thermaltake Bigwater cooling
Nvidia 780i mobo
Q6600 (hopefully snag a GO and oc it to 400x9)
4gb DDR2 800 (not sure what brand yet, probably stick with Corsair)
Already got an almost free 1200 Watt thermaltake PSU (ty moron friends who think they need a 1500 watt PSU and trade me a 1200 for...[no bs] a 12 pack of Bud and some Marlboros)
Then the only thing left to decide is one or two 8800gts.

That's my future build. I do so badly want to have it done before Christmas. But I'm waiting for the new 780i platform so if it gets bumped to Januaury.....so be it *grinds teeth*.

Any reccomendations about anything please chime in. This will be my first water cooled pc so any hints and tips and "just stick with air cooling noob" comments are much appreciated.
