Hi,

Trying to reinstall XP Pro. Using XP Pro boot disk and getting a strange error. Going through BIOS boot process fine, everything recognized, but while setup is "Inspecting Hardware Config", it halts and I get the following error.

File \biosinfo.inf could not be loaded
The error code is 4096

Setup cannot continue... etc...

Any ideas? Thanks much.

Just got a new A7V266E, had to RMA last one, trying to install on RAID 0 array. New PSU as well.

Can't reflash BIOS either for some strange reason.

** EDIT Getting I/O Error when I try to use aflash to update BIOS. But if I use a Win98 Boot disk, it sees the files on the disk, runs aflash, but can't find the BIOS files that are right there on the disk. Using the correct names before you ask.

Bad board?

you don't want to flash with the windows start-up disk for your boot disk.

just go to windows explorer and put a blank disk in the A: drive

right click the drive and tell it to format. select the option to "make MS-DOS start-up disk.

after the format, copy your downloaded BIOS and flash utility to this floppy then boot to it

Your systems seems very unstable at the memories, try to set all memory configurations in minimun performance. Try to include in your Win98SE boot disk the program HIMEM.SYS and set the config.sys acordingly, it will make a far better memory check than the mobo's POST.

Yup... I realize that. Perhaps I didn't explain myself well enough.

MS has a program that allows you to make boot disks for XP Pro (6), similar to Win2K (4). FYI XP will not boot from DOS, so a Win98 boot disk has no use. Has to be in a pseudo 32bit environment... which is why MS has the boot disks. The copy of XP Pro I have does not let me boot from the CDRom. On disk 1... after I have set them up, when it tries to obtain HW info from the BIOS for setup, I received the following error (mentioned in my first post) and was not able to proceed (multiple times).

Since it was a BIOS related error... I assumed something was wrong with the BIOS, so I attempted to reflash. I do have a bios disk set up correctly... it's giving me a I/O error (tried different cables as well, not the problem) and will not let me flash the BIOS.

All is well now. Newegg hooked me up with a KR7A133 Raid. Have it up and running, no issues @ all. Very nice board. Much better than the 2 A7V266E's I've been through. Temps more reasonable, better IDE performance from my RAID array, and no wacky voltage issues. I also like Softmenu III much better than the Asus BIOS.
