What type of things would I expect to see if the battery on my motherboard was dead or dying?

I have a brand new Gigabyte 7dxr+ (http://www.giga-byte.com/products/7dxr+.htm) and the BIOS has been giving me a bit of a prob, and I don't get proper restarts, it goes down, but never seems to come back up. This was happening before I installed any OS.

Thanks,
Onieda

The most obvious sign of a dead motherboard battery is that the clock is unable to keep the time correctly, or settings are always lost.

Those aren't battery symptoms. Check to see if there's something grounding out the motherboard. I once was doing a build in a case that had a standoff where there was no mounting hole on the motherboard. I could go into the BIOS but it didn't work right (don't remember exactly). The unused standoff was shorting something.
