There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly." ANyone know how to fixc?

Wrong forum but:

I need some information:

1) New problem or is this a fresh install?
2) What version of Windows?

Ok, pop open device manager

(right click on my computer, properties, hardware, device manager)

Do you see a yellow exclamation point next to your Audio devices? <!> or a <?>
If yes, you need to find a driver on your mobo's main page for it.

Is the overall performance sluggish as well? You might benefit from a chipset driver as well from the same website. Look for audio drivers and chipset drivers on their support/download page.

Not only using CR's link to the drivers....you should consider removing any devises that might be grabbing common IRQs from your device manager and rebooting. Sounds like another device might have grabbed the interrupt. Addressing conflicts are the most common causes for these kinds of problems.

Nope no yellow exclamation point, should I reinstall drivers anyway?

Scarpozzi's suggestion is also right on the $, do you have any PCI cards or anything extra in the box?

Can you play other normal sounds or does NOTHING work? You might need to configure your mixer to use the internal sound device (seen this a bunch too)

Curious...

Are you sure there's nothing amiss in the Device Manager, mind taking a screenshot of it for me?

Try that driver for giggles and grins, I've seen weirder things.

Also, check for a mixer console (sound properties in CP) see if its muted or something daft like this, or not enabled.
