Motherboard and Processor Upgrade

I am using Vista Ultimate 64bit retail version on my desktop for more than a year, I am planning to upgrade my motherboard and processor but want to retain my existing OS intact, it has SQL Server and IIS so I cannot afford to lose all the settings.

What do you guys suggest? Does Windows Easy Transfer work flawlessly? or Do I have to uninstall all the drivers in Safe mode and replace the old board?....Which method is fool proof?

Do a full disk image backup, install the new hardware, then do a repair installation. If it fails, reinstall the new hardware, restore the backup and look for a solution.
 
There is no real easy way to go about doing this. If this is a legit retail copy of Vista you should be able to just swap boards and re-activate. As long as you are not making a wild change like from AMD to Intel or vice versa and the mobo chipset is in the same family, IE intel or nvidia, everything should work. I've done mobo/CPU changes on XP several times and all I've ever had to do was to install drivers.

Well, I have legit vista ultimate retail, I don't support piracy and I don't mind re-activation. My biggest concern is I don't want to lose any of the vista settings especially SQL and IIS , other team members who connect remotely to my PC will be really pissed off if they find somethings wrong after the upgrade.

I currently have Intel 975xbx2 motherboard with e6700 Dual core and thinking of upgrading to Asus board based on Intel Chipset and Quad qx9770 cpu.
