does it usually take force for the motherboard to go through the IO shield?? and can an unproperly mounted IO shield short and possibly fry a motherboard
 
Yea it can be a pain to get in there. Just make sure the shield is fully in place and everthing is lined up ok and it should be fine. It's designed to touch all of the connectors to prevent interference from going in or out.
