I was stopped for a light and a Cadillac was behind me. I happened to glance in my mirror to see a Dodge Nitro coming very very quickly from behind me, so I gunned it into the left lane (good thing I was in gear at a stop ;)), but I didn't move quick enough, as the Nitro blasted the Cadillac at probably 45 mph. She got knocked out and swerved into the left lane too, without her foot off the brake, so she bumped me. The only reason I didn't suffer more damage was that I was will moving with my foot on the gas.

Her car was demolished, the front doors didn't open and they had to extract her from the back. She was also in some serious pain. They ended up strapping her to one of those back injury stretchers. Her car was so badly hit that the passenger front fender was crumpled, even though she never got hit there.

The guy who hit her was pretty shaken up, so I really didn't say anything negative to him.

Bonus for me. I just finished detailing it for the winter :|

Double bonus for me. I have new wheels and tires set to go on, too. :|:|

Damn...I've had that happen once, where someone hit the car behind me hard enough that it caused like $7000 worth of damage. I almost lost it though, I'm glad you kept your cool.

Sucks about your car...not much time left to drive it before the snow hits :(

It's a lease but I'll be buying it out.
Avon Road just west of Dequindre. By Yates cider mill, for those locals.

You'd be a fool to buy it now, repainted cars drop value like no other.

I was rear ended by a durango at 45 mph while I was standing still waiting for an ambulance to go through. My 1995 Rivieria was totaled. I swear it looked like the trunk of the car just disappeared. All my seats were broken and my glasses flew into the back seat. I managed to walk out without a scratch. Surprised the caddy got roughed up so much. You were lucky you didn't get hit in that little car or they would have needed a can opener to get you out.

Further proof that nothing good comes of detailing your vehicle. ;) Sucks for you, but at least you weren't hurt.

This is the fear I have. I'm a very defensive driver on the road but getting rear ended while stopped at a light scares me. I wouldn't be able to get another car.

That blows I used to live by there. Your situation sounds similiar to something that happened to my mother. She got rear-ended on Auburn and Dequindre, cept it was a Cadillac that hit her.

I'd rather have a re-sprayed bumper than a car with an unknown past. I know it's never been money-shifted, I know that I only used only the required oil weight and brand.

That is actually why I saw enough to move. My mom and I were rearended when I was about 8 or 9, so now I always keep my eye on the mirrors to see how the cars behind me are stopping. I just happened to pick the wrong way, going towards the left versus the right.

Ugh, that's unfortunate. I heard from a rather reputable source that A Auto Point is pretty good and my wife and I were happy with them. Maybe you should check them out. ;)

Sounds like a genius told you that. ;)

I'm a little concerned that finding a bumper for a car that had a total production run of less than 6,000 in North America might be... difficult.

That could be problematic. My wife's Jetta was in the shop for nearly a month because they were having trouble getting the parts they needed. I can't say for certain but I'd guess that there might be a couple more Jettas in North America than Z4Ms.

This has happened to me twice, most recently about 2 years ago, about 2 weeks after I got my new WRX - by a cop.

What happened? Did the cop end up paying off your insurance company or blaming you for being in his way?

He admitted fault, and his insurance paid for it, it wasn't his cop car, but a personal vehicle.

When we pulled over I wanted to call it in, of course he called one of his cop buddies who then told me to just swap info. I pretty much knew the cop wouldn't write one of his buddies a ticket so I sort of let that go.

I just wanted the whole episode to be over with, I was beside myself with grief. I had to get a completely new bumper as well as a new reinforcing bar that sits directly behind the bumper.

In my case, I was about 3 cars back from the redlight, the light had just changed and the cars ahead of me started to move, but I hadn't started moving yet, he just floored it right into the back of me.

Screw that. I would have been on the phone with 911 before I got out of the car.

If its the same Rochester VW dealer I understand, they had my buddy's Jetta for 3 weeks once because they had to special order a very rare part, turn out it was the OIL.

This same thing happened to my coworker except that she was the one directly rear-ended. It totaled her car and pushed her about 50 feet from a dead stop.

Glad you're OK. Sorry about the car, but I'm glad it wasn't worse.

Good luck with the repairs. A friend of mine had her M roadster rear ended and she had to wait 3 months for a new exhaust to be shipped from Germany for her car. Of course, I told her she should just go aftermarket but she wanted the car to be original for some strange reason...

Oh bullshit. That's pretty minor damage and should be as good as new when repaired.
