Mother of God, is this Duron SUPPOSED to be this hot???

It idles @ 42 Celsius, 800 Duron @ 1000, 1.85v w/FOP32. WTF???

I don't think I got my P3-700 to hit that temperature @ 1.95v @ 1050!!!

Weird. I'm not sure I "approve". Seems way too hot to me. No crashes, very stable on the K7T Pro2a, but good lawdy...that's a hot muddafukka.

Oh, BTW, the YSTech fan that comes with the FOP32 sounds like a goddamn airplane. Good heavens....

Robo:

Durons run much hotter than P3 coppermines. After reading many of Mike Warrior's posts, your temp is fine.

Robotech,

how does the k7t pro2a read temp? I heard it doesn't have a socket-thermistor, and MSI's support has been less than helpful.

For t-bird/duron 1ghz, someting in the range of 20-25C over ambient case temp wiht a good heatsink is very good.(full load, of course).

when it gets to 1.2ghz t-birds and stuff, you're gonna be looking at cpu's running "30C" over ambient case temp(50s and 60s) under load, even with hedgehogs and alpha's, etc. So these guys run warm, but it isn't something to worry about.

RoboTECH, If your worried about the heat just get a fan for a fop38 and swap them. There pretty cheap,
but pretty loud.

well, a FOP38 prolly won't make but a few degrees difference

think I'll cut an 80mm blowhole to get some more airflow, see if that does the trick.

Mikewarrior, thanks for the info. I just don't like seeing temp's that high, that's all.

oh, and did I mention this fan is GODDAMN LOUD!!!

har har har

the YS Tech fan is loud attached to the fop32, Mr. Smartay Pantz! :)

okay.

reversed the fan direction on the FOP32/YSTech HSF combo. Blowing instead of sucking...er...nm..

K7T Pro2a reports in PC Alert that after 5 hours of rc5, CPU temp maintained mid-40s, 46 mostly, @ 1.825v and chassis didn't hit 35 celsius.

I assume RC5 is pretty good, but why only a 5 celsius increase when under load?

I'm gonna have to loop Quake3 and RC5 to get a more definitive answer, methinks.

5C temp change from idle to full load = Malfed up temp readings, as the norm for socket a boards. ;) Sorry.

Mikewarrior, that's what I thought. Makes no sense

I must say, however, that it doesn't feel all that appreciably hot. It's quite warm, but it was pretty warm to begin with.

Blah....

However, I've managed to lower overall the temps, and the Duron is holding a steady Q3demoloop + RC5 @ 1.750 volts (PC Alert III tells me it's actually 1.77v)

coolness.... <g>

Cool,

the important thing to remember is that the core can go to 90C(95C for 1.1/1.2GHZ chips), so for the most part, a 50-60C reading for a highly overclocked/voltaged chip isn't too bad.

hey Robotech, i was wondering what kind of cooling you are using on your P3 700? i am having cooling issues with mine, and although i know what to try next, i boubt it will lower the temp drastically. i have a thread addressing my problem, and someone posted a reply claiming that his or her P3 600 @ 841 mHz is running at a temp of 33-35C. i am running my P3 700 @ default 700 mHz and the average temp is 41C (SETI@home running all the time).

by the way...i just became a senior member with this post. woohoo:p
