Well my wife is staying with her parents for a few days and yesterday she calls me up saying her mother was hit by a car. She's ok but her leg is very sore. She was the last person of a group of people to walk across an intersection when the little "walk" guy was showing. An elderly woman didn't see my mother-in-law and hit her right leg between the knee and foot. She got the woman?s name, address, insurance info, number and a few eyewitnesses. She went to the hospital but they said she was "ok". She missed work today and my wife took her to see a Chinese doctor. Now I don't know much about these "Chinese doctors" but they apparently made her feel better and told her she had a pulled a tendon. That same doctor said he didn't want the insurance involved because of some BS about how he wasn't "licensed" to do car accidents. Do you think we could get that woman to pay for the visit (dunno about this since he's not a real doctor) and lost time at work? How would we go about this?

he's probably not licensed to practice medicine at all.

Wow...how much did you have to pay the driver to try to take out the M.I.L.? :D

Odds are, that Chinese Doctor isn't a licensed practicioner, and you won't be able to get compensated for his services.

So should we congratulate you or should we share our condolences on this happy or sad occasion? Which ever, you shall have it.

C'mon guys not all M.I.L.'s are bad. My happens to be a sweet old loving lady who often looks at me funny...

In all seriousness, do you guys have any suggestions? I don't drive, so I don't know how these insurance exchanges usually work.

You can get the insurance of the old woman to pay for the hospital visit and the missed work. They should also pay for 'pain and suffering'. Usually the adjusters have some minimal authority ($100) to pay for lost work without any documentation. You'll need the hospital bills to get paid for those.

Insurance should cover physical therapy/acupuncture as well as homeopathic medicine. My guess is the 'doctor' either isn't a doctor, so it won't be a covered visit, or that they're feeding you a BS line about licensure in the hope that you pay them directly. In most states, the insurance pays the injured party for all medical costs and it's up to you to pay your bills. Some people stiff their doctors.

Why did you have to put "chinese doctor" in it instead of just writing "doctor". Are you implying that all chinese doctors do malpractice or some shit?

Well, we do.......... SHHHHH....
