Mother got a laptop but it doesn't have an ethernet input

Mother bought a laptop without telling me and it doesn't really fit her needs and it's too late to take it back. Her latest problem is it can't connect to the internet as it has no ethernet input. She has no router, only a modem. I only use a modem myself plugged directly into my desktop and know little about this kind of stuff. Will this do the trick?

That notebook has dual band wifi so getting a wireless router would be the best option freeing it from a cable connection. Otherwise the adapter you mention will work, however you should consider that it is an unpowered device and will strain the motherboard over time especially if other devices are plugged into it.

The Asus Transformer is not a laptop - it is an Atom tablet with keyboard. It has Wi-Fi. Did it not come with a manual?

Before any solution offered it is important to know if the Modem is a Modem only or a Modem/Router.

So before your sent useless money down the river (which became the most favorite act of the current breed of Enthusiasts) post your modem model and some info about the Internet connection.

😎

Very likely your mother's ISP now offers a combination modem and Wifi router. If you get them to send you one, then your mother will not have to purchase any accessories, get wireless capabilities, and will protect her computer from being directly on the Internet.

Opted to buy the newegg router, thanks. She only had a modem. The company offered a router at a "reasonable" leasing fee of $6 a month. I said no.
