They are just about one year old.

On my right boot, one of the seams that keeps the shoe together is coming undone. The rest of the boot is in fine shape, I wear them a lot, but this is a definite manufacturing defect and not something I expect out of a $140 pair of boots.

Do you think I can get them replaced? They were purchased from the Timberland Store. I know it's been a year but these defects shouldn't happen, should they?

Q. Do you have a warranty on your products?
A. We only make products that we think are great. We want you to think so, too. That's why only quality workmanship and premium materials go into everything we make. Timberland has a warranty against any manufacturing or material defects. This is not a guarantee against wear and tear. If your Timberland® product is defective, we'll make things right. First, we recommend that you try returning it to the store where you bought it. If this doesn't work and you bought it in the U.S., you can make returns directly to us. If you feel your product has a defect, we'll be happy to have a member of our quality inspection team take a look at it. If you need to return something or have general questions about our warranty, please email us or call 1-800-445-5545.

Worth a shot I guess

Nike has a similar policy, if your shoes were made in the last 2 years(note I said MADE, not purchased), they'll take them back, and if they find a defect, will reimburse you. It's worth a shot, Timberland may have something like that as well.

shoes are suppose to break apart from normal wear and tear after about a year or so if u use them daily.

No, they're not. Sorry. I wore a pair of doc martins (back when they were made in the UK and not in China) from 9th-12th grade, 6 months a year, until I decided that I needed black boots too, so I bought these.

maybe cheapo athletic shoes that weigh next to nothing, but not high quality, $140 boots.

Is this surprising? I thought timberland were just label boots - I mean, you wouldn't go hiking in them, would you?

I don't hike in them. I just like some structure to my footwear and not the pathetic support of athletic shoes for most of the year. It's either boots or sandals. When I was looking for a new pair of boots, I was originally going to get docs again, but my dad said to try timberlands because his have lasted for about four years and still going strong.

They're a good mix between studiness and comfort. They're not work boots, which are so sturdy that they hurt your feet for most of the two-month breakin period. They also give me enough support that I can go through just about any weather in them (granted, I hardly ever see snow).

I'm surprised your timberlands are already wearing out. I've been using the same pair of timberland workboots for over 2 and a half years and they're in pretty good shape. I just buff them up every few months and they look brand new. I'd just call timberland up and see if they'll repair them free if not take them to a shoe shop. If you're ghetto like my friend you'll just wrap it up with duct tape and continue wearing them.

timberlands are ok but not as good as they use to be. now its more about haveing a major name than a quality product. Danner boots are way better imo.
