The Epox ultra from what ive been reading is probably what your looking for. i think im gonna lean that way myself. I really had my heart set on a DFI lanparty but atm really need to watch my pennies if ya know what i mean :p

DFI. As fast as they come, best OC potential and it has all the tinkering you'll ever want or need.

DFI always wins the mobo competition in terms of performance....It won't, however, win the competition for price (or even value if you aren't o/cing)

If you "dont plan to push anything to its limits" and just "want to tinker a bit", the MSI board makes the most sense. The DFI is really for people who want to tweak everything to the max and run at crazy-high voltages. If this isn't you then save a bit of cash and get a slightly better feature-set by going with the MSI board.

Well in that case I guess the cost point is moot, but the MSI does still have a slightly better feature set (more SATA ports, more USB ports, fancier second gigabit ethernet device, RAID-5 support, and more plain PCI slots instead of the silly second PCI-E x16 slot that the DFI has). Like I said the DFI is really for if you're trying to maximize your tweaking potential.

I voted for the Neo4, but because i'd recommend the Neo4-F (non-Platinum).

It's cheaper than both those, but still seems to OC very well.

Plus, from what i've seen, the DFI is not an easy thing to configure unless you're willing to spend some time with it.

EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra. The DFI is not recommended unless you really want to tweak the system. It has the most OC potential, but from the sounds of it you will be better off with a different board as the DFI may need tweaking to get it to work properly. If you were someone who really looked to push their systems to its limit then the board would be for you. However this is not the case for you so get the Epox.

The EPoX is a stable and a good overclocking board.

Actually, i also have the Modstream 520W, & i know you could get the power cable to work on that Epox.
It might be a bit of a challenge, but it would work.
However, check this one out: MSI K8N Neo4-F @ $89.00

are there any big differneces between the plat and the -f

The main differences are:

Plat has 8 SATA connectors, 4 are SATA-II, 4 support RAID-5. The -f has 4 SATA connectors, no SATA-II and no RAID-5 support.

Plat has 2 integrated gigabit ethernet adapters, -f only has 1.

Plat has integrated firewire, -f does not.

...that's about it. Note though that newegg currently has a $25 mail-in rebate on the platinum, meaning that you can have one for only $12 more than the -f, which is a pretty good deal if you need any of the extra features the platinum has.

Not many.

The Platinum has dual LAN (-F has one LAN port), 8 SATAs (-F has 4 SATAs), & IEEE1394 (no IEEE1394 on the -F).

I agree with all of you suggesting the Epox, but he is right about the power cable connection being a nightmare.
With the Modstream PSU he has, it's gonna be very frustrating getting it in without it blocking any airflow from the HSF, nevermind keeping it off the HSF.

I'd have to agree with his lack of interest in that hassle.

Get teh MSI. Its a stable board that's easy to setup. It has a better feature set than DFI. And it can overclock well too. For your uses MSI< MSI <MSI. :D
