I'm trying to find a gift for someone who owns a laptop. For those of you that already own one, what is something you'd appreciate getting as a gift that would accompany your laptop? Try not to state the obvious... I've never owned one, so I don't know what someone would need or want for it.

Okay... GO!

It's a relatively new laptop; do you think it's too soon to get an extra battery? Wireless internet card... how does that work? Privacy screen.. that sounds pretty good.... so no one can look at his... homework.... and stuff... har

dude, the extra battery idea is great. i swap mine out with a new one when i run low on juice at the library. each battery lasts 3.5 hours so i can work all day no prob. however...be prepared to spend like $100 on a second battery.

wireless internet card is just one of those 802.11b compatible pcmcia cards. you get a wireless access point and a wireless pccard and you can have wireless lan. i have one at work and i can browse the internet anywhere i go. conference room, other peoples offices, heck..even when i take a bathroom break.

you need to tell us your budget cause those two mentioned above are really cool but are like $100 to $250.

if you want to go cheap go with a laptop case.

Common now, just put some 3000mah RC car batteries in series and pop in some resistors if you need to. Now THERE is a good computer mod...

Its espically useful if you have a laptop that lets you put both batteries in at the same time, :) Then you don't have to switch when one runs low.

if it's someone who's using the laptop as their main computer, a docking station (there are several words for this same concept.... I forget the others.). I would never take my laptop anywhere before I got mine, b/c it was too much of a hassle to mess with all of the plugs and stuff. Now it's easy. I just slide it out and I'm ready to go.

Extra batteries are good too!

A little more expensive (it depends on whether they have one already in their laptop) (again this is only for someone whose laptop is their only/main computer) is a USB CD burner. I am very happy with mine.

It depends on they use their laptop, I would buy them whatever they'd get the most use out of, such as:

An extra high capacity Lithium Ion battery ($100)

A docking station would be a great idea, they usually have all the peripheral connections, so they can use a full size regular keyboard, hookup an external monitor, USB, NIC, etc.

<< How about a spolier? >>

Spoiler as in something that will ruin a movie you want to see? Or spoiler as in something on the back of a car? If it's the latter, I think he's already got one! :D

damnit thats what i need. not sure how to make one.. ah well. too bad no kits around. i wouldn't mind lugging around a brick of batteries as long as my laptop stayed running.

The two most useful things for my laptop are my intellimouse explorer and my superslim case. The case is made by incase (bought it from
apple's site for $50) and it is smaller than a typical textbook. The mouse is nice when i am at home and want to surf the net. The smaller
mouse will hurt their hands, in my opinion.
