Baltimore, Detroit, and St. Louis usually spar for the murder capital title in their size class.

There are smaller towns located in general areas of crappyness that do worse though. Gary, IN immediately comes to mind. That is one town I wouldn't go into without a loaded handgun or three.

East St Louis?

The MO side has some really bad areas. East St. Louis is more on the Gary/Compton scale.
It is however another area I wouldn't dally in without a large caliber firearm.

DC is a lot better now than it was 10-15 years ago. Ever since the crack-head in charge left office it has been on the up.

Unfortunately we have to put a certain smaller city in Virginia in this conversation this year.

My home town was around an hour away from Reading PA. A few years back it was 3rd or 4th for the most murders per capita. It was also pretty high for the most violent crimes per capita as well.

Slightly old data, but #38 and #21 are up there.

Man, I thought we were all badass here in Oakland. But in 2004 we were only #24. Dang. Concerned citizens heeded the call and have started shootin' more. Murders were up last year, and on track to be up again this year. :disgust:

I love living here and my neighborhood has a pretty low violent crime rate, but man, this city has problems.

Greeley, CO around here.

Heh... I don't see my hometown mentioned here that often. I am in Baltimore for the summer and it has nothing on Greeley in terms of murders and crime... :D
