most stable hardware

I am looking to put together a computer, and I want the most reliable hardware out there. I have been burned so many times with motherboards going bad, memory crapping out, random foul ups and other general annoyances, that I just want a system that will work when I need it to. I am not interested in overclocking it, nor do I need the fastest thing out there. I prefer AMD to Intel (especially with the power saving junk). I am a bit leary of ASUS because one of their motherboards blew up on me taking out my ram and remote kb/mouse (that was a nice $3-400 down the drain). Price is also a big consideration. My thoughts were to get some kind of ABIT or MSI motherboard, Athlon XP, 2x256 Crucial ram, low cost GeForce, and a Maxtor Hard Drive. Put a GoldenOrb or equivalent cooler on the processor, and have a case fan in the front. I figure that this should even keep a Microsoft OS from crashing too often. Comments/suggestions?

TIA

Want the most stable hardware out there with the least amount of problems? You probably don't want to hear it, but it's probably a Apple G4 tower running OS X. I was running OS X for months and I don't think it ever crashed once. It was on laptop, so I had to shut it down, but it never, ever crashed. Programs were rock stable also.

But back to PC's. That's a pretty good system. I've got basically the same thing. No overclocking, crucial ram, etc. Crucial Ram is definetly a good idea. Stay away from Western Digital and IBM harddrives. Maxtor and Seagate Barracudas seem to give people less problems. Also, you'd probably want to go with a Soundblaster live 5.1, since the Audigy don't seem to have the kinks entirely worked out yet. As far as burners, if you're looking for reliable I think Plextor's a still well reknowned, although I'd just take a cheaper Lite-On. And my Visiontek Geforce2 hasn't given me any problems. I'm running an ECS motherboard which hasn't given me any problems except that I can't put my computer to sleep. Since I'm running Seti all the time, it doesn't bother me. Okay, it bothers me a little bit that the computer can't do everything I want, but I can live with it.
