In your opinion, what would you say is the single most significant event of all human history?

Birth of Edison.
I think all other advancements are pretty much evolutional.
Edison revolutionized the world.

Fall of the Roman empire.. I was actually thinking that before opening the thread. I think that if they didn't fall, quite a few countries would be different today.

And no, I'm not religious.

Well that event didn't even happen to 50% of anandtech users.

I'm going to say the creation of the United States. Everything in the past 200 years would be different without America as a free nation and a world superpower.

I don't doubt it happened, but I don't think he was the man the bible portrays him as.

Well then, can I say.. the supposed birth of Jesus? ;) Either way it was a significant "event". :p

Anyways, correct me if I'm wrong here, I thought it was a generally accepted amongst historians that there was a Jesus. It's whether all the events and if he was the son of God or what not is disputed. Again, correct me if I'm wrong here.

Edit: And the fall of the Roman Empire can be attributed to Christianity, as well as can the creation of the U.S. :p

That's my understanding as well.

200 years is a pretty tiny sliver of the "modern world". And for those that will argue that the Roman Empire was a tiny sliver of history, we dont really have that much recorded history. Probably like 99% of the history that we know is only 5000 years old or less.

And I havn't seen anyone named Jesus in any history books yet.
