I need a cable modem for a co-worker of mine.
He uses an RCA modem which is somewhat stable, but it is slow and gives inconsistent speed.
He had a Surfboard 5120 that I connected and it worked for a short time and was much faster and more consistent, until it got stuck with a flashing receive light, as if the cable was unplugged.
He could not find the stock adapter, so I used a universal adapter which worked but got very hot.
Personally I have had very good experience with Motorola modems including the 5120, so is this just a bad modem or could the universal adapter not be providing the right power when it gets hot?
Anyway, if not the 5120, then he needs a new modem. It is crucial for it to be always on and handle many fast connections and signals.
Linksys is no good as all of the ones I tried crashed very quickly with any kind of high internet activity.
RCA is also not what I want. What else is there that is worth trying? Dlink? Or should I just try another 5120?
Thanks
