Most reliable and quiet HDD out of these ones...

Samsung 750GB
Seagate (SATAII: 160, 250, 320 and ES.2: 500)
WD (SATAII: 250,320,500)

Which one would be more reliable and quiet over the long run?

Have you considered the WD 6400AAKS?

I just got one yesterday; It absolutely flies, and I am hearing NOTHING coming out of it. Thought it was dead when I first put it in my rig. I saw that you listed the WD 320 as an option; the 640 has two platters and considerably faster than that.

Besides,

Can't beat the price: 640GB for 114.99 + free shipping at Newegg? I wish I had a bigger budget, I woulda bought 10.

Check reviews on them, they're all over the place.

Cheers,

Rakewell

I like WD and refuse to buy Seagate. A friend of mine likes Seagate and refuses to buy Western Digital. For reliability, just pick something with a good warranty, as all drive manufacturers have bad drives. For silence, check out silent PC review as they sometimes have good info about hard drives.

This one....except for the soon to be released VRaptor, and the Samsung 1tb F1, no drive is faster.

The 750Gig Samsungs use a 250gig platter, so they are not as fast as the WD 640 or the 1Tb samsung
