quietness is a plus
can be volted via fanmate 2 (assuming i spend another $6 to buy another one)
gimme links please, thanks

The YL are 120x25mm fyi.

The Panaflo's are consistently one of the best performing and quietest 120x38mm you'll see..and i am selling some meself in FS/T section. 😉 (shamelss plug)

What, no link? 😛

I have a sunon from svc thats pretty quiet. i don't run it at 2400rpm though 😛

Try the Arctic Cooling Fan 12. Won't be very loud out of the box. If you can control it, it'll be even quieter (and I think it will be enough).

the artic cooling 12 fan actually looks pretty good. but how is it at stock 12v? compared to... a 1500pm 120mm fan?

Since it is on rubber stands, it will be quieter but it will also move more air due to it being 38mm.

IMHO trhe AC lines of fans are one of the noisiest with an intolerable motor noise at any speeds. At least the ones I tested while I was at SVC.

Sanyo Denki 120x38's are absolutely silent @ 5V [unless you drop then, in which case there is a slight whirring noise.]
Can be had for 11 bucks @ uh... Petrastechshop [dot com.]

Trevor..do you have any idea how much air they move at 5v....

do you think they are quieter than a YL@12v and move 47cfm

I Panaflo LIA on PA160 @between 7v- 9v depends on my mood(occasionally 12v too)..@7v it is the same as YL@12v and 9v is very close as well

38mm seems to provide better airflow/noise @ certain rpm than 25mm fans do.. well according to theory they should right? bigger, thicker, more angular blades.

I think they mostly give higher pressure airflow, but i'm open to correction.

You can't go wrong with panaflo (well, japanaflos), or yate loon. I have a deep seated distrust of deltas for noise, possibly misplaced. I wouldn't give up on 25mm fans quite yet.

Well it could be that i was refering to 25mm fans, the following statement would make that a logical conclusion.

But you're right, i didn't know panalo don't build 120x38mm fans in japan.

*Adds to fact database*

I was not be being, rude..sorry if it came off that way..All I know is I have not found 120x38 Panaflo made in Japan..I would of course prefer those...I know they do make a n 80mm fan in Japan but often you will pay more ..and I did

Panaflo has never made a 120x25mm that I know of - I guess they figured that they couldn't make one with their modified wave bearing motor that would push enough air quietly. The quiet 120x25 wave bearing fans like Yate Loon don't push much air relative to 25mm ball bearing or 38mm wave bearing fans. I don't know of any 38mm wb fans that can push over 100CFM while 120x25mm bb fans can be made tp do it easily. While 38mm bb can be made to do over 200CFM no problem.

Matsushita sold their fan division (Panaflo fans) to NMB (Nippon Minebea - minebea is an amalgam for miniature bearing) and all production (of Panaflo anyway) has been moved to the PRC. A few of the pre-NMB, Japan made ones are still out there (at high prices if the reseller knows his beans)... Quality has slid a bit with PRC manufacture.

NMB and Nidec also make good fans when you can find them. I have some NMB 120x25 made in Thailand here that do very well cranked down just a bit. Capable of 118 CFM at top speed - but you wouldn't want to listen to that for long...

I also like the Sanyo Denki (I use one in my machine and have a couple more in the closet, just in case 😀 ) mentioned by TrevorRC and the Delta triple blade units mentioned by G-Y and others.

what do you think of the noise on Sanyo 120x38 fan at say 7v or 5v..do they move much air

How would the noise compare to YL @12v

Neal, my rig will be up and running tonight. I'll run them side by side. Completely subjective. But, YES, they DO move air at 5V--a substantial amount from my recollection. At 12V they sound like a turbo prop, but very nice airflow.
