SilentPCReview.com may be worth checking. The quietest of all would probably be Ultra320 SCSI... on the far end of a 10-meter SCSI cable, in your basement or wherever :D I haven't seen anyone do that just for quietness, however.

I have the 320GB WD SATA II and it is very quiet. I have heard that the Seagate 7200.1's are a little noisey, which is what drove my decision towards WD. I am glad I made the choice I did ;)

My WD 250 KS is the loudest thing in my rig when it seeks, but that's because the rest of the rig is so quiet :D. The WD's are supposed to be the quietest consumer SATA's.

WD 250 JD
WD 500 KS

If still bothers you, try internal enclosures and fit them into a 5.25 bay.

Samsung is known to create one of the quietest hard drives. I have a Samsung HD501LJ, and it's really quiet, especially if you suspend it in the case.

The latest WD hard drive (AAK) is also very quiet from what I hear.

I'll go with the 250JD from WD. Just plain quiet! And you can make it even quieter by suspending it or sound insulating it!

This. Getting a suspension or rubber mount or something along those lines is a good way to eliminate the cage rattle.
