Well a GTX580 is the fastest single slot card, at least some makes. Of course it will depend on the cooler it uses.

I have a feeling that's out of your price range as it sure is out of mine. ;)

If your budget is $160 going off those cards you listed, something like a 6850 would be better than those 3 and shouldnt hog more than 1 slot so long as you don't get one with a big fancy cooler on it. The GTX460 is about equal to the 6850 and is a pretty small card. That would work as well.

None of those are actual single slot cards as the cooler sticks into the next slot's space.
Fastest stock card would be this 6850

Galaxy had a single slot gtx 260 216. Bet they can make a 560 with the same cooling design since the TDP is almost the same but no market for it so there probably won't be one.

So, is there internal space, like that A-B distance in your last image? If so, with otherwise good cooling, I suspect many of the dual-fan designs would work fine. Particularly AMD as they use less power.

Also, are you willing to wait 2-3 months to see what the next generation cards look like?

Yes, I am in no hurry :) I will be using a GT220 in the meantime.

There appears to be a lot of clearance underneath the slot, since that's where the HDD's usually go... However I won't know until it arrives end of next week whether or not a dual-slot card will fit with a 3.5" HDD... Most people say no.

So that led me to wonder about single-slot or not quite dual-slot cards
