my PSU is loud and noisy, if it has glowy stuff comin' out, all the better since I have a side window on my comp, but it wouldn't matter much about the flashy effects, just need something quite

I also need a quite 478 fan for a Northwood P4

suggestions appreciated

Well, I just bought my new rig and my Fortron Ax500 PSU is honest to God dead silent. Nice blue color (not lighted, just blue colored) and very very happy with it.

Seasonic is the brand leader for quiet PSUs. There may be more quiet PSUs about, but seasonic is the brand to beat. Go to SPCR and check thier recomended section for PSUs

Antec TruePower is also very quiet, even their SmartPowers are quiet... Fortron is good too...

Another vote for the seasonics. I absolutely hate noise so when I bought my s12-500 i hooked it up to a psu tester to see how noisey it really was. I thought it was faulty but then looked down to see that the fan was spinning, I just couldn't hear it.

Sorry forgot about the cooler... Zalman's are powerful and will look nice with your windowed case... A CNPS7000B-Cu will prove sufficient... You could shave off some bucks by picking the AlCu version, which cools nearly the same...

Another alternative is an Arctic Cooling Freezer 4, it doesn't cost as much, but is very efficient... (I have the Freezer 64 and it keeps my Athlon 64 3000+ @ 2.4GHz under 40°C, even when using OCCT) It is also very silent, SilentPCReview recommends it...

My advice...

Well if silent is what your going for than I'd recomed getting a PSU with pasive cooling, thats 100% silent ;) bu make sure you have some other ventilation fans in your case.. :)

The new AOpen 700 watt unit is quiet, ballsy, well reviewed and more important, it's a good price. The baby brother 600 watt unit is great as well.

Seasonic S12 series.

Their only rival in quality *Pc Power & Cooling* dosn't have a model *to my knowlage* that comes close in noise level.
