I have found I never game anymore and keeping up with current High End PC parts has also lost its luster to me. Been looking at laptops and the 13" Macbook Pro keeps coming up on top. I have heard rumors that the i5 and i7 might be coming soon so looks like I might be waiting a bit to pull the trigger on my purchase.

So my question to you Apple gurus is this, what if anything should I get to prepare to move to mac?

and

Do you think the 13" Macbook Pro will be getting the i5 or i7?

I always say buy now. Tech always gets better, but macs age well. A mac you get today will still be a great computer 3 years from now.

Sometimes its time to buy sometimes not. IF they are releasing new hardware tomorrow do you still say buy today? What about 2 days?

I say wait i7 is a huge step. Core 2 duos have been out for a while now 3-4 years? Something like that. Its worth it to wait. No one will want a C2D 3 years from now.

Another thing to note is that some imacs from 3 years ago dont even work with the new OS. Snow leopard. Just a couple more reasons to wait. Who knows what apple will do...

Snow Leopard doesn't work with the old macs because those old macs still used the PowerPC architecture. Regardless if you really need it then go ahead and pull the trigger. If you want to wait for the i7's then wait for the i7's. No matter what you'll be making a good choice.

You shouldn't need to do anything. Just have all your documents and media ready to switch over. You may have to do a little more to get everything set but once you are set you'll never look back.

I agree in principle with Sourceninja. If you are ready/needing to buy now, then buy now. There will always be something better around the corner (however, I believe that if you were to order it and within 2 weeks the new ones come out, you can get on the phone with Apple to get it replaced for either free, or perhaps a 10% restocking fee).

If however you are able to wait a month or two, then wait a month or two.

I believe its a 15 day return policy.

I would wait. Also, if you haven't noticed, most people will recommend buying from the refurb store, if something you want is available there. It looks like the MBP will be getting an i5 or i7 but I don't think it will be available in the 13" series. Most likely high end 15" or 17".

I've had my Mac for about 2 years now and I have no feeling of need for a new model. It does everything I do just fine (SAP, PHP programming, Photoshop CS3, etc).

Would I like a new one...of course...do I need a new one...not at all.

Looks like the refresh is coming soon for the mbp.

My budget suggests waiting a long time between tech refreshes, so it makes sense for me to wait for the new model and buy on day one, which I did in Fall of 2006.

I'm with PricklyPete: I don't feel the need to upgrade. But that is because I don't think I can get anything at this time which can get me a 24x increase in performance for editing / re-encoding AVCHD. I think that will take another couple years.
