Oh yeah those mcpherson struts are amazing...
Civic is a freaking econobox designed to be an econobox.

An M3 CSL has McPherson struts.

Ha yeah with 5 degree negative camber so that the tires have full contact since you're taking all corners at 1.3Gs

...and yes, I've driven one. In the corners no less. If you believed the fanboys, you would think that with $50 it can out run an F1 car while getting 45MPG.

it's more like $300 (+75 if you want it carbon fiber) and you will only get 35MPG.

OMGSSSARRTHIRTYYYY...oohhh...ohhhh...im gonna come...TWO?
People pass it off as a jesus of all cars... what fantastic technology did it introduce? AWD? Turbo straght 6?

Hell 3000GT VR4 had more technology gadgets than skyline.

ATTESA E-TS Pro AWD, but I don't know why you're focusing on technology.

The 3000GT is a pig of a car.

Technology isn't always about gadgets.

Most serious car guys will not say crap about the Skyline GT-R. The platform can be pretty easily made to smoke SUPERBIKES and still be a daily driver. It's an insane car.

edit to denote GT-R is the skyline that's the monster. To many post up GT and GTS-T or even skyline sedan specs.

Civics actually had double wishbones at all four wheels up til the 6th gen, I believe.

Smoke superbikes? In the corners maybe... liter bike will cracks 0-60 under 3 seconds. Supercars have trouble keeping up with sportbikes.

This exactly why i said it's overrated. Ricebois think that a skyline and a BFT (big f turbo) will outrun everything on the road.

It's not impossible to adjust the camber on a Civic, either, so your argument is meaningless.

The Skyline has historically weighed the same, if not a bit more. 😉

The GT-R R34 was 1650kg!

Yeah your modded FWD civic will be great with -5 degrees camber or hit 1.3Gs for that matter ...hello understreer:roll:

I didn't say anything about my Civic (which has double wishbones all around) - but what you said before is irrelevant. How angry are you, btw?

Yes. R32/33/34s modded to 800+hp regularly throw down sub-10s on the quarter, and sub-3s to 60. Drag bikes that are stretched and with a wheelie stub can beat that, but it's not exactly a streetable setup.

That said, Skylines are incredibly rare here, and even more rare to see one modded to insane levels like that. A $10k bike will toast a $100k car almost every time in an old-school drag race.

I am aware that it was a commercial flop. I am also aware that the Skyline probably would have been also had they brought it over to the US. It's just a bloated pig, exactly like the 300GT/Stealth.

I can't find the Japanese video (only an arab one) but they show a R32 vs Haybusa..the R32 has several car lengths on the bike at the end of it.

No it was not stock. The Skyline GT-R was never intended to be left stock though. The engine has more in common with a race motor than street one and why it's so much more formidable than it's 2.5L little brother even though with only 0.1L more there should not be that much difference.

Sort of.

The 3000GT/Stealth (VR-4/RT) was pushing it pretty hard at 300-320hp in stock form. Without internal changes, the motors just weren't solid enough to handle a whole lot more reliably.

It's a stark contrast to the Skyline, which used motors that could reliably handle triple the standard output or more with all-stock internals.

The 3000GT actually sold pretty well over the years, albeit primarily in the gimped 168/220hp base and SL versions. Mostly a chick car, which is spot-on for Mitsubitchy. I always lol when I see a 2g Eclipse with the Ec and e taken off, leaving 'lips' on the tail. Anyway, the 3000GT outlasted other, admittedly superior, contemporaries such as the 300ZX, the Supra, the RX-7, and so on.

The Skyline R32/33/34 series *could* have been a huge hit here, but cost would have been a significant factor. With the ever-changing emissions/safety standards, the cost probably wouldn't have been worth it in the long run. But you can bet a lot of people would have been all over the easy (relative to other cars) 800+hp you can coax out of it with bolt-ons. AWD to put the power to the ground is a proven winner, you can see this by looking at all the sub-10 STIs, Evos, and so forth.

There's a difference between overrated and overexposed. The 3 series is the best car in its market segment and has been for 20 years. I know the journalists sound like a broken record when they keep hyping these cars, but they really are great.

They've certainly gotten uglier in the last few years...

Yeah, I think the E36 and E46 are the best looking 3 series so far. The new sedan is kinda lumpy, strangely proportioned. Great car I'm sure as usual, but not the best looker. New coupe is decent.

The 1 series is really nasty looking, but again, a great car.

IMHO of course. They do have character of course. Audi A4/A6/A8 are as bland as tofu. A5 is hot, R8 is sweet, and the RS treatment goes a decent way on the 4 and 6. But in general, BMW is at least more interesting to look at than the usual Audis.
