Video chat, never use it

4G only use it when tethering & streaming movies, it'd be pointless with tiered data IMHO

NFC interesting, maybe useful in a few years, sounds like a good evolution from scanning barcodes.

CPU speed is approaching redundant status like in desktops and netebooks, I really don't need a much faster phone, I'd rather they really focus on battery life...

Author is an idiot. Dual cores will improve battery life.

That's not entirely on base either. A well designed dual core CPU built with power saving features will improve battery life but we've seen CPU's that are dual core and inefficient that actually do consume more power. It really comes down to the CPU design.

I do agree with the article's point on 4G networks. It's a hyped feature but considering the spotty coverage, it's not there yet for 3G much less 4G.

I think video calling can be a major feature but it really depends on the quality of the wireless network. It's not just useful for chatting but I've went to a supermarket, done some shopping and then shot the produce section to see if my wife at home wanted anything she saw that was seasonal. And when I'm at work, it's great to be able to see my kids on the video chat. It's no substitute for holding my kids and talking to them close up but it's better than a normal phone call.

HD recording on a phone is way overblown. As is the megapixel count for still pictures. No one is going to complain about better quality video and still pictures off of a phone and the iPhone 4 is actually pretty good on that front but it's still not going to hold a candle to a pocket camera. The sensors crammed into cell phones are simply too small for better quality recording with today's technology. Furthermore, the general public doesn't need more than something that they can upload to Youtube.

NFC...do you really want your phone to be able to process payments by simply waving it at a device? Think about how easy it is to lose your phone. I'll stick to my credit cards and I really don't like that some of them have RFID chips in them as it is.

I work remotely from home for weeks at a time and video calling is a blessing to me.

. . . if you're at home, why not use the considerably faster and more reliable landline?

Maybe he doesn't have a webcam at home? It's just another added expense. If the phone already has it then it's great for him.

Video Calls
Dual-Core

NFC

None of these is anything that someone needs, they're just extra features to improve the way we go mobile. No one needs a smartphone either, it just improves our lives. I think this article is retarded as this are the biggest features for any modern phone.

he's not saying they're unnecessary, just over-hyped.

Video calls. Most annoying phone "feature" ever (just beating Nextel's Push to talk crap).

Take the good dual core design and remove the second core I'm pretty sure power consumption would be lower. The main point I'm seeing here is that they find the performance good enough and that getting more battery life from your cellphone would be much more beneficial to the users.

i don't even know what NFC is, so ill vote for that as well as video chat and a front facing camera 2 other things ill never use but will end up having to pay for

HDMI out is also pretty useless to me and i really don't see myself ever using that either

I've been hearing some interesting uses for NFC; Smart accessories. The device and accessory both identify each other using NFC and interact/pair or whatever they need to do automatically, removing the need to configure each and every thing you use with your device.

That list is shit.

4G is useful. For one, I get 4G in my office when 3G cuts out. Different frequency, different tower location. Gives me another coverage option if I need it. Not to mention, it's fast. I turn it on any time I'm browsing the web on my phone.

For me, the biggest, most overhyped feature, has been the front facing camera. I've never used it. I probably never will until it can be used with a Facetime user on the other end AND Facetime can be used over 3G. I realize that's not Sprint, HTC's, or Qik's fault.

NFC isn't overhyped. It's not even hyped at all. It might be the one potentially awesome feature that almost nobody is talking about. DBZ cited some examples of how NFC will make your life easier. As someone who routinely pairs to 2 bluetooth devices at the same time (head unit and FIPO), I'd love that.

I think the front facing camera is a great feature, especially with cross platform apps like Skype and Tango.
