It doesn't take much strategy to know that a thousand years of conflict can be rekindled and by doing so you create the perfect bug zapper. Sure there is collateral damage but its over there, hopefully. Its really the only reason they would do it the way they did it. They created the power vacuum on purpose. They had lots of good advise going in and still did it the way they did.

Psychopaths get on top in this country because they are willing to make life/death choices with peoples lives and careers. We (corporate America) value that. Cheney is very much a psychopath in this regard and I could see him easily coming to this conclusion.

You are sure; I am not.

I think it's a bit unfair to make this out as a Bush screw up even though it was. Ultimately "The Plan for the New American Century", a group now known as NEOCONS, had been pushing to go back into Iraq in the late 90's. They authored many letters to the then president Clinton and to anyone that would listen and there goal was to finish the job in Iraq, depose Sadam, and bring a new era of piece and tolerance to the region.

When Bush became president he packed his cabinet with many of the NEOCONS from the PNAC and they seized on 911 as the opportunity to go back into Iraq. Bush, never the rocket scientist type, was lead by the nose by these guys and the rest is bloody history.

Apparently pleased with there results we now have Bill Kristol pushing to expand the idiocy to Iran.

Conservatives love to laugh at the ideologically driven policy ideas of the left, of there ideas that appear immune from reality, but the right is rife with brain dead ideologically driven policy. For the most part the silly ideas of the left harm few if anyone whereas the foolish ideas of the right cost us thousands of lives, trillions of dollars, and a future of constant war. I'll take the harmless silliness of liberals anyday!!!

Listen.

All the right people made all sorts of money and gained all sorts of prestige from US involvement in the mideast.

What we "accomplished" or "failed" at doesn't matter, as long as all of those right people keep making good money while gaining status and prestige.

Forever.
