My advice: get the fvck out of London and get up to Scotland. Edinburgh is a GREAT town, as are St. Andrews and many others.

That is all.

Oh yeah, always visit Scotland, Wales and Ireland if you come all the way in the direction of the UK, Edinburgh rules, specially if the festival is on 🙂
(my am-dram group i used to be with got a Fringe First award a few moons ago ;-)

I was just giving a rough guide to Englands finer points..lol

England = Good Beer
Scotland = The Best Whisky In The World!
Ireland = Guinness (no need to say more 🙂
Wales = Sheep-Juice

hehe ;-)

sorry, got an attack of the Anne Robinsons there.....

Definitely hit Bath while in England. Also, I recommend the tour that lets you see Stonehenge at sunset. They actually let you get up close and touch the stones. Pretty cool except it was cloudy when we went.

Yep, Bath Spa is a great place.

Went in July, Roman Baths are UBER-AWESOME!

Sure are. 🙂

When you do go to Amsterdam, please use this map to find the coffeeshops, so i won't have to give you directions like so many tourists.... oh and the red light district is also on there (another favourite)

when I was in Europe this winter, I felt that Italy had the most to see. Well, amsterdam too, but of a different nature.

THanks for all the suggestions so far! So far i'm not totally decided yet, but I will still have about a month or so to decide. My stay will be for a week, and 2 out of those 7 days will be reserved for the "longer trip" out to another country. If i can find my way to other more localized countries like Paris (as someone mentioned above), I'll do my best to travel there while my sister's at work.

Would it be recommended that I travel outside of London by myself? I'm all up for scouring the outside areas, but i'm kinda freaked about not being able to communicate with the thickly-accented native peoples 😛

For Culture:

1.) Rome, Italy & Paris, France

3.) Florence, Italy

4.) Venice, Italy

5.) Prague, Czech Republic

6.) Amsterdam, Netherlands

7.) London, England

8.) Vienna, Austria

9.) Munich, Germany

For AMAZING-looking nature: Switzerland!!!

people outside of London altho in some areas having fairly thick regional accents are also very friendly quite often, and will be willing to be patient and helpful, so long as they come across nice from a distance you will probably be ok to approach, best to carry a map with you tho so they can point to things...lol
Mostly though you have to go fairly far north or west to find the accents that are strong, anywhere around South and East England are fairly clear cut English accent.

Drive on the Autobahn!

Sorrento and Capri, islands off of Italy, are VERY nice too!

sorry for crappy image quality, it was an OLD camera

Bruges is very nice in Belgium, though I didn't really like Brussels that much . . .

Capri and Amalfi coast are indeed exceptionally amazing! It's my favorite place in Italy, but this time of season is not the best, which is why I didn't inlcude it in my recommendations above. For Summer, it's a no-brainer! 😀
