Hi,

I recently purchased a K8N Neo2 and a Athlon 64 3000+. As I wait for them to arrive I've been looking around and am sadly surprised to learn that'll probably need to buy a new P/S and RAM to really get things going.

Right now I have a Sparkle Power Intl 300w (3.3v-14a, 5v-30a, 12v12a) -which has been fine on my XP1800 (never crashes or locks and p/s is at least 3 yrs old). I'm also running a Radeon 9600pro an IDE 7200 80gb and 2 cdrw's.

Apparently the pc2700 RAM will run (according to MSI) and I've heard newer cpu's draw heavily on the 12v 'rail' so I'm thinking i'll probably run into problems here and I'll have to get a new P/S. So I guess I'm looking for some suggestions. The box is really only used for HL2 and college work. I'd like something that will get the job done last a while and not break the bank.

Thanks in advance

Honestly, I don't think you NEED to upgrade anything as long as your PSU and RAM are in working order. 300Watts doesn't give you a ton of overhead, but you should be just fine. Faster RAM sure would be nice for more speed, but it should run fine on the PC2700.

I recommend trying the system out w/your current PS. if you're having hard-to-diagnose problems, then upgrade. a quality PS can usually handle more than you'd think so you may not need a new one yet.
