building a new budget rig on a via chipset mobo. it will be running both winxp and linux. which sound card is the most ideal? thanks in advance.

well, I'm sure they work out the kinks with VIA and sb live. SB Live works pretty decent in linux, running it on Mandrake box now. Just my newbiepc $ .02.

I think my Santa Cruz works fine in Mandrake.

I recently purchased an OEM SB Live! 5.1 because it can do digital-out within Linux (and I've got that working). I've turned a P166 into an MP3 jukebox thanks to Debian, MySQL, PHP4, and a few other goodies. Under 600MB (before MP3s), remotely controlled via a web page. A rather interesting (yet, still incomplete) project.
