The day after Layne Staley died, the radio station around here was playing some of Alice in Chains' music, and there were a couple really slow haunting songs. Anybody happen to know what they might have been? I'd love to hear them again, but would like to avoid getting all of their albums.

Now you are going to make me break out the MP3's :)
Those about the slow ones that I can think of.

Oh... Angry Chair might be another one.

These are some of their better, slower songs:

Don't Follow
Down In A Hole
Heaven Beside You

I was a huge fan of theirs back in the day (circa '94).

'Don't Follow' has to be one of the most saddest songs I know.

Hey, I ain't never coming home
Hey, I'll just wander my own road
Hey, I can't meet you here tomorrow
Say goodbye don't follow
Misery so hollow

Hey you, you're livin' life full throttle
Hey you, pass me down that bottle, yeah
Hey you, you can't shake me round now
I get so lost and don't know how, yeah
And it hurts to care, I'm going down

Forgot my woman, lost my friends
Things I'd done and where I've been
Sleep in sweat the mirrors cold
See my face it's growin' old
Scared to death no reason why
Do whatever to get me by
Think about the things I said
Read the page it's cold and dead
Take me home (5x)
Say goodbye Don't follow

Yeah, there are some quite haunting songs on the "Jar of Flies" and "Sap" EP's.

Yep. It's probably also the best song AIC/Jerry Cantrell has ever written.

*listens to Jar Of Flies*

The two songs that I thought of before opening this thread were "Nutshell" and "Frogs". Both pretty haunting.

Pretty much the whole "Jar of Flies" EP is along the lines of what you're talking about. Very soft, haunting stuff.

I really enjoyed Alice in Chains, even if the more recent CDs were not quite up to par, IMO. RIP, Staley.

Thanks to this thread I now have Down In A Hole playing through my head. Alice in Chains is still one of my favorites.

Edit: Wish I had some MP3s here at work. Arghh!

I used to do the same. Alice in Chains was awesome mood music for the depressed.

Agreed. Also supported by my girl who knows more about that single band then anyone else I've ever met knows about a single band (excluding those that have been in a band).
