Is the age old question of "but can it play Crysis" still valid?

What would the hardware demanding game on the market be right now? Facts? Opinions?

GPU demanding = Crysis
CPU demanding = GTA 4

can stick Flight Simulator in there for CPU (don't know if it's GPU intensive), but I don't consider Flight Simulator to be mainstream

What about Stalker Clear Sky??? I thought it was more demanding than Crysis.

Yes, I had the same idea as well, Stalker: CS has more demanding graphics than Crysis.

Demanding due to lack of optimization or due to actual rich and complex graphical features?

I think that Crysis is demanding because it's actually a beautifully rendered environment with complex models and textures, but Clear Sky, while being a superb game by itself in terms of entrainment doesn't really fall into the "demanding because it's high-tech visuals" category, it's running on a decade-old engine on which they added features, and it clearly shows it in-game. I can also think of a game like Oblivion and Fallout 3 being demanding thanks to how old the GameBryo engine is, try to get 60 FPS in Morrowind at 1900x1200 on a GTX280 with only 4xAA and 16xAF, and tell me how it turns out.

Yep, Stalker Clear Sky is probably the most demanding title right now, being even more demanding than Crysis. Also Call of Juarez under DX10 is pretty demanding too.

Are you talking about DX10? I beat the whole game in DX9 with everything to the max. (12x10 res though - not that I could go higher with my monitor) Not a single slowdown.

Cant imagine why anyone would want to run it with DX10, since the minor eye candy gain is totally not worth the performance drop. Then again, maybe Clear Sky is the 1st game out that that looks significantly better in DX10? If so please tell me.

Crysis maxed runs around 30FPS for me. Stalker Clear Sky maxed runs over 45FPS constant. Then again, when I set the settings to "Maximum" some options were not highlighted and I was unable to utilize those settings. Then again, maybe they are just for low-end PCs.

Guitar Hero III, I don't think ANY system can play it without stuttering :)

You should really look up some video's and/or screenshots of Clear Sky being run in dx10. If you got the hardware, that game looks godly, and imo better then Crysis, in it's own way. Crysis is beautifull, but Clear Sky uses it's graphics to create pure atmosphere, where as Crysis feels like pure eye-candy.

I've heard stories about it, but I have it (as well as Aerosmith) installed on my PC...now I play at 720p resolutions, but mine plays perfect... no stutter... and i have a value/mid system

Can confirm among all games out now, Clear Sky is the hardest on my 4 GPUs. I haven't tried GTA IV yet, but it seems to kill CPUs.

Crysis and Everquest 2 are the only real demanding games. Even then Crysis can run well all the time above 30 with SLI. So that leaves EverQuest 2 to be the most sytem demanding game. Raid on 1920x1280 with the new expansion with any quality graphic setting... I dare you.

I have both of them also and they play without issue on my PC.
